Filming - Day 2

After successfully filming the scenes for the opening - I had found a perfect location to shoot footage that would interlude in-between the first scene of the bath etc. I chose to film in a forest deep in a wood that I live near that has a small lake inside; choosing to film on a very rainy day to add to the atmosphere in the setting. My footage filmed this time and on the first day have both been shot in daylight; slightly cold and pure colours can be seen. This idea contrasts to the stereotypical thriller genres where it is all shot in the dark to add atmosphere - yet it works really well adding it's own sense of isolation presenting the daylight yet nobody is to be seen. Some shots were taken as I ran holding the camera in my hand; looking downwards on the floor as a Point of View shot - suggesting that the character is running, looking down at her own feet. These fast shots will contrast as I will alternate them in the first scene as she lays in the bath - presenting the eerie-ness of her laying still then the suggestion of the flashback - that she remembers as she is frantically running through the forest.  I shot some wide and long shots to establish the scene, suggesting where the character 'Alice' has arrived - emphasising that she has also arrived there in her thoughts as we are reminded that this again is a flashback. The two locations are used to provide contrast between the two situations yet showing a link as they both show how there was trouble in the forest scene as she reminisces - yet how troubled she is in the bath is also shown.
Long shot - establishing the scene
Cut-away shot to the 'frantic running'
Quick pan of the sky (frantic again)
Using some wide and establishing shots to suggest where we are - I placed Zeina (my actress) to the left standing next to a tree as she stands still looking out towards the lake. She is dressed in a white coloured jumper to suggest the mental illness - white being the colour of mental clinics, insanity and mental patients. Therefore this is why I chose this as a costume to portray her mental state. A close-up macro shot was used as I focused on a section of her wet hair; the lake being a blur in the background. I then panned out bringing the lake back into focus with the raindrops dripping in. I found this shot very artistic and effective - being a point of view shot to show 'Alice' looking at the lake.
Extreme Close-up shot of hair - pan out to lake

A very effective shot building suspense and tension was a pan again from behind Zeina - a mid shot coming round to show her from behind and bringing her into focus.  These shots would represent the flashbacks and seem to tell a story alone - along with the shots in the bath.  These will grab the audience's attention and make them question these shots - wondering why the character is remembering these.  After the opening 2 minutes; it would be shown later in the film as her flashbacks tell a story and compare with the current reality that she is faced with as she is haunted by her past.
